LumiaTerry Myerson, Executive Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, spoke at the Worldwide Partner Conference earlier today and confirmed that there will be premium Lumia models rolling out soon. This dovetails perfectly with comments made last week when Microsoft announced a huge $7.6 billion write off related to the purchase of Nokia Devices and Services. At the time, the company said that it would focus on value-priced models, phones for the enterprise, and high-end phones for specs-centric smartphone fans.

Microsoft is said to be working on at least two high-end models, the Nokia Lumia 940 and Nokia Lumia 940 XL. There is speculation that the two handsets will be made with polycarbonate, and be will priced higher than other competing premium models. Both phones are rumored to contain specs in line with current top-shelf phones. The Lumia 940 could feature a 5.2-inch screen, a Snapdragon 808 chipset, 3GB of RAM and a 20MP PureView rear camera. The Lumia 940 XL is expected to carry a 5.7-inch display and the Snapdragon 810 chipset. It also should come with 3GB of RAM and a 20MP PureView snapper on back.

“Last week we announced a focusing on our Lumia lineup, but let me be clear: soon you will see premium new Lumias designed for Windows 10.”-Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President, Windows and Devices Group, Microsoft

Whatever Microsoft plans to roll out in the short term could be revealed in Berlin at September’s IFA show. With all of the time and expense used to make Windows 10 Mobile a reality, Microsoft will probably be willing to give its revised mobile platform some time to see if it can gain some traction against iOS and Android
