Microsoft in a follow-up post outlined the speed at which its Windows Phone 7.5 Mango rollout would take place. In an attempt to keep quality in check, only about 10 percent of users will get the update pushed out in the first week. That could expand to 25 percent later if everything went well, Microsoft’s Eric Hautala said.
The company will hold off for the next one to two weeks to verify a succesful upgrade and then quickly finish the remaining batch. Regular updates are coming to detail progress.
It’s expected that most of the initial focus will be on American phones, which are all part of the initial wave. The previous update, NoDo, ended up reaching most American phones last, in part because of AT&T-specific issues.
Although the phone will signal an update is ready, updating currently needs either Windows Phone 7 Connector on Macs or the Zune player app on Windows. Future phones like the HTC Titan and Samsung Focus S will ship with it out of the box.
