Rajesh Jha, who had been leading much of Microsoft’s work, will assume responsibility for the broader business that includes Windows, while Joe Belfiore will continue to be in charge of much of the work on Windows itself

Myerson had been with Microsoft since March 1997, when the software giant purcahsed his startup, Intersé, Before running Windows. Myerson led Microsoft’s Exchange e-mail team as well as the company’s mobile unit.

There’s now an executive vice president just for Azure. That person, Jason Zander, will be reporting to Guthrie, who will be executive vice president for the expanded Cloud and AI Platform group.

CEO Satya Nadella announced Myerson’s departure, along with other organizational changes, in an e-mail to employees on Thursday. Myerson, meanwhile, shared his parting thoughts in a LinkedIn post.
