Metroid Prime FederationThe 3DS game that nobody seems to want finally has a release date. Nintendo has until September 2 to convince 3DS owners to buy Metroid Prime Federation Force, despite all the negative feedback.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force was unveiled during Nintendo’s Digital Event at E3 2015, alongside a trailer. Fans didn’t react well to the announcement, however, and even started a petition to get the game cancelled. Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime would end up acknowledging the negative reaction to the game, but asked fans to trust the company on this one.

“What the fan at home saw was something in the Metroid Prime universe that they weren’t expecting,” Fils-Aime said at the time.

“The reaction has been negative. There’s no sugar coating it. This is an example where fans who aren’t able to get their hands on the game may be at a bit of a competitive disadvantage.

“Everyone who has played what we are showing regarding Metroid Prime, they’ve come across really pleased. My ask is that fans trust us.”

The franchise spinoff is a four-player co-operative mission-based title set in the Metroid Prime universe. It will come bundled with Metroid Prime: Blast Ball, a first-person shooter sports game in which two teams of three go head-to-head against each other and attempt to score goals.
