On top of Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas in early talks to board Steven Soderbergh’s The Laundromat, now comes word that Meryl Streep is set to star in feature.
Frequent Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns wrote the script based on the book “Secrecy World” which deals with The Panama Papers scandal. Leaked documents showed how Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca allowed the wealthy and the connected to funnel money illegally in and around the world.
Streep’s character is said to be the “emotional throughline” of the movie. Michael Sugar, Lawrence Grey, Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh and Burns are producing.
No distribution is on board but Netflix is one of several potentials said to be interested.
