Oscar winner Natalie Portman will join Jude Law in actor turned filmmaker Brady Corbet’s next film Vox Lux at Bold Films and Andrew Lauren Productions.

Portman replaces Rooney Mara who had originally been attached to the film and when she dropped out Portman circled the project, though her involvement was put in question after the film’s shoot was delayed following the failure of the Jake Gyllenhaal-led Stronger  at the box-office.

The story follows the rise of ‘Celeste’ from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. The film spans 15 years and traces important cultural moments through the singer’s eye, starting in 1999 and ending in the present day.

Filming will now begin February 1st in New York City with a soundtrack boasting all original songs written by Grammy-nominated artist Sia.
