Lumigon has announced the availability of its new T2 smartphone. The designer phone adheres to a minimalist aesthetic, with its steel frame formed to allow it to stand on end. The T2 will be available later this year, though Lumigon has not yet specified exactly when.

In addition to the standard Android navigation buttons, Lumigon has added a button it calls the Activity Button, which can be programmed to perform specific activities. A long press of the button can be linked to the phone’s flashlight feature, while a short press can trigger a call. The phone also features a Vault mode that can be used to store confidential notes, emails, and media, as well as a Sunlight mode, which turns the screen black and white for easier reading in direct sunlight.

The T2’s rails and top components are formed from stainless steel with PVD coating to increase toughness. Its 3.8-inch, 480×800 display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass, and its audio components include an MS3 sound chip from Bang & Olufsen. Inside, the T2 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 2TB with a MicroSDXC card.

The T2 is a GSM handset capable of operating at 850, 900, 1,800, and 1,900 MHz. It can connect to 3G UTMS and HSDPA+ networks. It has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and NFC capabilities as well. It packs a Micro-USB port, infrared receiver and transmitter, and an FM receiver.

The phone comes with an 8MP rear-facing camera with flash and video light, as well as a VGA front-facing camera. The lithium-ion battery is user-swappable, and provides up to eight hours of talk time, 310 hours of standby, six hours of video playback, and 31 hours of music playback. The device will run Android 4.0 at release, and Lumigon has given no word on whether it can or will receive an upgrade to version 4.1.

The Lumigon T2 will be available in two color options: Deep Black and Cool White. The device will launch in selected European and Asian markets, and in certain international consumer electronics online shops, after the summer of this year.
