Hinterland Studio’s crowdfunding campaign for The Long Dark has closed with more than enough to fund what the developer calls a “first-person post-disaster survival simulation.”
According to the game’s Kickstarter page, The Long Dark received $256,217 in pledges from 6,966 backers, surpassing its $200,000 goal. The extra funds will be applied toward two stretch goals: one for a graphic novel and the other for an extended soundtrack.
The crowdfunding will continue through PayPal on the game’s official website, and future money raised will be applied to stretch goals. Two stretch goals remain listed on the Kickstarter page: translations into French, German, Italian and Spanish plus a radio play at $275,000 and translations into Finnish, Swedish and Russian plus a voiced graphic novel at $300,000.
The Long Dark is in development for Linux, Mac and Windows PC, and Hinterland is targeting an Oct. 2014 release. Earlier this week, the developer announced that former Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter is joining the cast.
