The PowerEdge R730xd Rack Server is the first hybrid storage server to feature Lite-On N9S 1.8-inch SATA flash drives, and they provide up to 100TB of storage, which is an increase of 50 percent over Dell’s previous-generation offerings.

By using Lite-On N9S 1.8-inch SATA flash drives, a Dell PowerEdge R630 1U rack server was shown by Dell to provide up to 2.4 times the input/output operations per second IOPS over 2.5-inch SSDs using the same amount of space.

“Recent research has reported that 70 percent of IT decision-makers have been negatively affected by performance issues when running applications requiring fast access to data – an alarming figure,” said Brian Payne, executive director, Dell server solutions. “Dell’s 13th generation of PowerEdge servers includes a slew of new innovations, such as Lite-On’s dense 1.8-inch SATA flash drives, enabling customers to accelerate application performance by up to 11x and meet unique application and workload requirements.”

The new N9S 1.8-inch SATA flash drives provide high speed, low-latency storage with low power consumption that can help organizations achieve lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in data center and enterprise applications. Lite-On SSDs feature built-in data protection such as power-loss-protection (PLP), which can prevent data corruption by detecting power loss and completing write operation safely. Lite-On SSDs also have self-regulated temperature control features and built-in performance monitoring that can determine when a drive will need to be replaced.

Lite-On N9S 1.8- and 2.5-inch SSDs are available in capacities from 60 GB up to 2 TB and have MTBF ratings of 2 million hours. They’re endurance rated to perform up to 1 drive write per day for 3 years.
