Sony Pictures' "The Interview" Opens On Christmas DayThe Interview” star Seth Rogen and co-director Evan Goldberg introduced the political satire at a sold-out screening early Christmas morning at the Cinefamily theater in Los Angeles.

“You are the best, without you we thought this might not happen at all,” Rogen told the crowd, according to NBC News.

“If it wasn’t for theaters like this and people like you, this wouldn’t be f—ing happening.”

The event drew news crews and featured Christmas carolers. The 12:35 a.m. screening at Cinemfamily was one of the first for “The Interview.” More than 300 independent theaters in the U.S. agreed Tuesday to show the movie — even though Sony had told them that a VOD release would take place immediately.

Major chains such as AMC, Regal and Carmike are refusing to book “The Interview” due to the VOD release, which launched Wednesday morning via YouTube, Google Play, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and its own website http://www.seetheinterview.com for $5.99.

“The Interview” stars Rogen and James Franco as bumbling TV journalists persuaded by the CIA to assassinate the leader of North Korea.
