Kyocera Sued by Microsoft

Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against Kyocera in which it alleges the Japanese smartphone maker is violating seven of its patents.

In particular, Microsoft is targeting the Duraforce, Hydro, and Brigadier series devices. Microsoft claims these phones use Microsoft-patented technology pertaining to location services and text messaging.

These devices all run Google’s Android platform. Microsoft has successfully forced most Android smartphone makers into signing licensing agreements for patents that are part of the Android operating system.

“We respect Kyocera but we believe they need to license the patented technology they are using. We’re hopeful this case can be resolved amicably,” said Microsoft in a statement.

Kyocera has yet to respond to the allegations.
