Justin Lin (Fast Five, Star Trek Beyond) is set to direct a feature film based on the PBS documentary Abacus: Small Enough to Jail.
Screened at Toronto last year, the doco explores the immigrant Sung Family who owned the small Abacus Federal Savings Bank in Manhattan’s Chinatown during the 2008 mortgage crisis.
In the wake of international banks escaping unscathed, federal prosecutors went after Abacus and the Sungs for mortgage fraud, forcing the family to enter a five-year legal battle to protect their business.
Kenneth Lin (House of Cards) is attached to write the script. Lin, Mark Mitten, Mary Lee, Ernesto Foronda and Elizabeth Urwin will produce.
