There was only one comic book panel in Hall H this year, and it fittingly put the spotlight on geek icon, Joss Whedon: the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse. Oh… and he also directed the mega blockbuster Avengers films for Marvel Studios. On Saturday, Dark Horse Comics presented Whedon’s spotlight panel, and he announced his new six issue comic book miniseries called Twist.

As Whedon explained it, “[Twist] basically deals with the most important question there is, which is why isn’t there a Victorian female Batman?”

Dark Horse Comics will publish Twist, and the preview art was drawn by Julian Totino Tedesco. However, a release date for Twist was not announced.
Whedon also joked about his half-decade working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the twoAvengers films. “I feel like, five years ago, a tornado ripped up my house and dropped it in the land of Marvel… It’s been a weird time.”

To close out the panel, Comic-Con International’s David Glanzer presented Whedon with Comic-Con’s Icon Award. “This is honestly the most beautiful murder weapon I’ve ever gotten,” quipped Whedon.”I didn’t expect to get moved by it, but I really am. Thank you.”
