john-krasinski John Krasinski has joined the ensemble of Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming pic revolving around the Detroit Riots. John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, Jason Mitchell, Kaitlyn Dever and Hannah Murray also star with Bigelow directing. Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty” scribe Mark Boal penned the script. Character descriptions are being kept under wraps.

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is financing with Bigelow and Boal producing along with Ellison, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson. Greg Shapiro will executive produce.

The crime drama is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967. Although no studio is currently attached, producers are targeting a release in 2017 — the 50th anniversary of the riots.

Following the end of his TV sitcom “The Office”, Krasinski has spent the last couple years reshaping his career with more action heavy and dramatic roles like Michael Bay’s “13 Hours” to “The Hollars,” which he also directed. He is also attached to star in the new Amazon series “Jack Ryan,” which has him playing the iconic Tom Clancy CIA analyst.
