Owners of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 should have begun receiving an update to Android version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The update is being rolled out as an over-the-air download, and it enables a number of user interface and functionality changes. The update also fixes an exploit that renders Exynos 4-based processors vulnerable to malicious apps.
The update to Android 4.1.2 brings a number of new features, as well as modified interface controls for programs such as Gmail. It also gives users access to Google Now, Google’s predictive search feature that also functions as a virtual assistant.
The Exynos 4 vulnerability, identified and confirmed by Samsung in December, is of concern if a user has downloaded a malicious app. The vulnerability, if exploited, would give malware the ability to remotely wipe data, brick a device, or access a user’s data without his knowledge.
