Deadline reports  Jason Momoa will star in a feature film adaptation of the video game Just Cause. In addition, San Andreas director Brad Peyton is set to direct the Just Cause movie from a script by John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).

The Just Cause series began in 2006 and has produced two sequels since then, with the franchise coming to be known for its open-world game play and highly-destructible environments (with the title taking on a double meaning of both a freedom fighter protagonist and players being able to do whatever they want in-game). Though the game series has three distinct entries in the series, the film will reportedly take its cues from the most recent game, Just Cause 3, with Momoa set to play the game’s protagonist Rico Rodriguez. The game is officially described as follows:

“The Mediterranean republic of Medici is suffering under the brutal control of General Di Ravello, a dictator with an insatiable appetite for power. Enter Rico Rodriguez, a man on a mission to destroy the General’s hold on power by any means necessary. With over 400 square miles of complete freedom from sky to seabed and a huge arsenal of weaponry, gadgets and vehicles, prepare to unleash chaos in the most creative and explosive ways you can imagine.”

Momoa is now filming the solo Aquaman feature film and can be seen as the character this November in Justice League. Brad Peyton is scheduled to re-team with Dwayne Johnson later this year for another video game adaptation, the big-screen version of the monster title Rampage.
