iPad and E-Reader Users Loving Digital Magazine

A study commissioned by the Association of Magazine Media has shown 46 percent of users reading magazines with iPads and e-readers are reading more magazines now than before. An additional 63 percent say they want more digital content to read. Two-thirds of respondents also believe that they will spending more time reading magazines on their devices over the coming year.

The survey also reveals that users are keen to on reading magazines in a similar way. Currerntly publishers are adopting all kinds of different ways of navigating their magazines. This has not be received well by users. A resounding 89 percent of those surveyed want publishers to adopt a uniform way of navigating digital texts. 69 percent also don’t want in-app video clips to exceed one minute.

An interesting facet of the survey is that it has not been possible to conduct until now, in a sign that the penetration of iPads, tablets and e-readers is starting to become relatively widespread. Undertaken early in November, 1009 people were pre-screened for their ownership of mobile devices and their use of branded magazine apps. “We’ve been wanting to do this research for some time, but didn’t have the critical mass to query,” said the Associations VP for digital, Chris Kevorkian.
