Intel today said it has agreed to purchase Lantiq for an undisclosed sum. Lantiq, which is based in Germany, makes broadband and home connectivity equipment.
Intel said the acquisition will improve its ability to offer DSL, fiber, LTE, retail, and internet-of-things gateways and routers. Though Intel’s main business is application processors, it understands that pairing processors with connectivity solutions is essential.
Intel scooped up Infineon back in 2010 so it could add LTE baseband radios to its smartphone and tablet processors. I
ntel’s acquisition of Lantiq is subject to regulatory approval, but it expects the deal to close within 90 days.
