IDT Offers OTT Messaging Service to Carriers

IDT today announced IDT Messaging, an over-the-top messaging service the company hopes to sell to wireless network operators.

IDT is pitching its messaging service as a way for carriers to reel back in customers who’ve left traditional texting plans in favor of third-party OTT apps, such as WhatsApp, Viber, and others.

IDT says its messaging service combines traditional messaging and IP messaging. Out of the gate, IDT is offing iOS, Android, Java, and web apps; cloud storage for contacts, messages, and media; group conversations; photo, video, and location sharing; and stickers, emoji, and other personalization content. IDT Messaging also includes something called MagicWords.

This technology will dynamically add web links to conversations on the fly so participants can find more information about select words in the thread. IDT says its new messaging product can be deployed by carriers quickly and requires no hardware installation.

IDT is offering IDT Messaging as a white label service, which means wireless network operators would put their own brand on it.
