HTC’s Puccini Tablet May Not Hit Stores Until Late Summer

HTC’s 4G-capable Puccini tablet may arrive somewhat later than first thought if component providers’ new tips are accurate. Although some had put its release in June, large- scale production now isn’t believed to be starting until then and would have it ship sometime later. Contacts told Digitimes AU Optronics and Apple’s frequent partner Wintek would be supplying the 10-inch touchscreens.

Extra details mentioned in the leak corroborated those from earlier. Along with the central LTE-based 4G that would give it exceptionally fast Internet speeds, it would theoretically be one of the fastest tablets yet with a dual-core Snapdragon MSM8660 processor at its root. HTC may ship the tablet with Android 3.0.1 and wait until later to upgrade to Android 3.1. Whether or not HTC will have a version of its Sense interface for Android 3 is still up in the air.

The Puccini is due to be the flagship device for AT&T’s early LTE rollout and could be in stores as early as the summer. Most of the carrier’s strategy, including whether or not the HTC tablet will be available without a data plan, is still to be determined.
