HP is taking advantage of the popularity of its Stream notebook, by producing a pair of compact desktop devices. The HP Stream Mini Desktop and the Pavilion Mini Desktop are similar in stature, measuring just over two inches in height and weighing 1.6 pounds each, but manage to pack in the equivalent of a full Windows desktop into their small frame.

The Pavilion Mini Desktop can be configured to have up to 1TB of storage and up to 8GB of RAM, with processor options up to an Intel Core i3 chip. Connectivity options extend to DisplayPort and HDMI vide outputs, four USB 3.- ports, an SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0, with the unit also drawing just 45 Watts of power when in use. The base model including an Intel Pentium 3558U processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard disk will cost $320 when it goes on sale from January 14.

The HP Stream Mini Desktop has relatively restrained specifications by comparison. Using an Intel Celeron 2957U processor clocked at 1.4GHz with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD storage, the Stream is packed in a more colorful Cobalt Blue casing and has the same connectivity options of its more-expensive and lighter-colored stablemate, but also includes a $25 gift card for the Windows Store and 200GB of OneDrive storage for two years. Also going on sale from January 14, the HP Stream Mini Desktop will cost $180.
