HP on Tuesday embraced AMD’s A-series in a big way by updating its Pavilion dv and g models, as well as the ProBook line, with the new chips. The 14-inch dv4, 15.6-inch dv6, and 17.3-inch dv7 as well as their g4, g6, and g7 budget counterparts all use processors ranging from the dual-core A4 up to the quad-core A8. They both get a brute force improvement over the older Athlon, Phenom, and Turion chips as well as twice-as-fast integrated graphics that can still handle 1080p video and some gaming.

Some models have the option of dedicated AMD Radeon graphics as well to use either on battery power or when performance is more important. All of the dv series uses CoolSense automatic fan tuning and an HD webcam, while the dv6 and dv7 have Beats Audio processing. HP was shy on exact specifications for the mix.

ProBooks are the same in external design as their earlier AMD and Intel counterparts but received much more specific hardware detail. The 14-inch ProBook 4435s and 4436s, as well as the 15.6-inch 4535s, all have options ranging from the 2.5GHz, dual-core A4-3300M up to the quad-core, 2.3GHz A6-3400MX as well as storage from between 250GB through to 750GB and the option of either EVDO or HSPA+ for 3G data.

Moving to the more advanced, 14-inch ProBook 6465b raises the option of a faster-still quad 2.5GHz A8-3510MX processor and more storage options, such as a 128GB SSD. The 15.6-inch 6565b gets the same choices in its larger shell.

HP didn’t disclose the launch details of the dv4, but the dv6 and dv7 will start of at $600 and $700 respectively when they arrive in July. Pavilion g4, g6, and g7 models start from $450, $498, and $499 each and will be ready to go the same month. ProBook users get an early start as all ProBook b-series models will be ready June 27 and start at $679. ProBook s-series models will start lower, at $519, but didn’t get a precise release date.
