At yesterday’s HP shareholder conference call, CEO Meg Whitman revealed that the company would enter the 3D printing fray. An announcement is scheduled for some time in June that Whitman calls a “big technology announcement” regarding the nascent technology.
The CEO thinks that the hobbyist market is small and that “the bigger market is going to be in the enterprise space.” Of the problems holding back mass adoption of 3D printing, Whitman believes that “we actually think we’ve solved these problems.”
Earlier in the year, HP Labs director Martin Fink wrote that the company is “currently exploring the many possibilities of 3D printing and the company will play an important role in its development.”
