HP has added the new Split x2 13-inch Windows 8 hybrid that allows users use the device as a traditional notebook, or split the display and use it as a tablet. The device is one of the larger models in its breed coming in at 13.3-inches and will sit above the 11-6-inch Envy x2 in HP’s lineup. The larger device is also powered by a choice of either Intel Core i3 or Core i5 3rd-gen processors, whereas an Intel Atom chip powers the smaller Envy x2.

The HP Split x2 includes 4GB of RAM as standard, but can be optioned up to 8GB. The entry-level model kicks things off with 128GB of SSD storage, although a spinning hard drive up to 500GB can also be fitted. To help extend battery life in the absence of fourth-generation ‘Haswell’ chips, the new hybrid incorporates a battery in the keyboard base, and a second 3-cell battery in the display portion. System audio is enhanced by Beats, while connectivity is provided by way of one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port and Wi-Fi 802.11n.

The HP Split x2 is available now from $799.
