Honeywell Debuts Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat – Responds to Verbal Requests

Honeywell has introduced a new version of its Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat that can be operated hands-free using voice commands. The Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control is able to understand when the homeowner is speaking to it and to follow verbal instructions, thanks to its cloud-based voice recognition system.

The unit is able to cut out ambient noise in a household to interpret commands, with the “Hello, thermostat” being the initial verbal prompt to start listening. Stating “Make it warmer” will make the temperature hotter by one degree, with “Make it much warmer” adding four degrees, while replacing “warmer” with “cooler” will reduce the temperature. By stating a number and a temperature change to make, such as “Make it six degrees cooler,” the thermostat will set the temperature following the command, and it is also able to act upon the statements “I’m feeling hot” and “I’m feeling cold.”

Aside from the voice control, the new model works the same as the Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat. It has a customizable color touchscreen Honeywell’s Smart Response technology for temperature monitoring, and is able to be controlled remotely via a smartphone app.

Honeywell is shipping the Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control this November, priced at $349.
