Lisa KudrowHBO has announced that “The Comeback,” the short-lived but beloved 2005 comedy series starring Lisa Kudrow, will return to the air this fall for a limited run of six episodes.

“The Comeback” centers on Valerie Cherish a former television “It Girl”” who will do anything to return to the spotlight: which includes giving permission to a reality TV crew to chronicle her journey as she returns to star in a new sitcom.

Despite its three Primetime Emmy nominations — including Lisa Kudrow in the Best Actress category — low ratings and the mixed reception for the show convinced HBO to pull the plug after just one season. Following its cancellation, however, “The Comeback” developed a distinguished reputation among television aficionados and critics’ circles.

Of her character, Kudrow remarked, “I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character.”

The show is slated to begin production in Los Angeles later this month. Kudrow, along with series co-creator Michael Patrick King (“2 Broke Girls,” “Sex and the City”), will return as co-executive producers. Dan Bucatinsky, who won an Emmy last year for his guest spot on ABC’s “Scandal,” will be coming on board as an executive producer and cast member. “The Comeback” is slated to begin its six-episode run on HBO this fall.
