Apple has partnered with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg on a limited WWII drama series Masters of Air, which will be the first series produced in-house by the tech giant.

Masters of Air is based the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller, and follows the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. It is the third different series in Spielberg and Hank’s “WWII saga,” following “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” both of which aired on HBO. Masters of Air was initially in development at HBO back in 2013.

The series is being written by Band of Brothers alum John Orloff, who is also a co-executive producer.

Spielberg will executive produce through Amblin Television, alongside executive producers Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Graham Yost (“Band of Brothers,” “Justified,” Speed) will co-executive produce alongside Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and Steven Shareshian of Playtone.

Masters of Air will be the second Spielberg-produced series for Apple, joining the anthology Amazing Stories. Masters is the third international drama series, joining Pachinko and Shantaram.

Apple TV+ launches Nov. 1, just 11 days before Disney debuts its own streaming service, and will cost $4.99 a month.
