R&B Singer Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle has been cast as Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
Filmmaker Rob Marshall has spent the last couple of months meeting with talent, but Bailey has reportedly been a clear front runner from the beginning.
Bailey joins a cast that includes Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, while Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula. The film will incorporate original songs from the original as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Miranda, Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca are producing while David Magee wrote the script.
