Appearing at the Lumiere Film Festival this week, Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux has revealed that filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is making a documentary about filmmaker Michael Mann.
At present there’s no word if it’s a full feature, or part of an extra feature for a home video release. Fremaux presented the director’s cut of Mann’s Heat at the festival where he revealed the news.
It comes as a bit of a surprise as the pair, though admirers of each other’s work and seemingly friends, are artistically very dissimilar in their work’s tone and approach beyond a similar meticulous attention to detail.
There’s recently been a push to see the little seen director’s cut of Mann’s 2015 film Blackhat gain a disc release, but so far there’s no word on if it will happen.
