Google Lens Can Now Identify The Breed Of Your Cat or Dog

Google is rolling out an update to Google Photos today that gives it the power to identify cat and dog breeds.

The latest version of Google Lens, the search giant’s image-based search tool, scans pictures of cats and dogs in users’ photo libraries and attempts to match them to its own knowledge base. If it makes a match, Lens shows basic information such as the breed name, a stock image, a short description, and links to more detailed results.

Google Lens is built into the Google Photos app. The new version of Google Photos also makes it possible to build a highlight reel from images of your pet, as well as search by breed, species, or emoji. Google says the Google Photos app may automatically create a photo book starring your pet.

Google Photos is free to download from the Google Play Store
