Google has released an important update of its Gmail client for iOS. The main change is the addition of Notification Center support, which enables banners, alerts, and lockscreen pop-ups for messages. When composing email users now also have the option of picking a different “send as” address, so long as the address is already configured in Gmail.
The app also now supports persistent logins. Previously the app would automatically log people out of a Gmail account after a given time, forcing them to re-enter their passwords to get messages. Logins should now effectively be permanent, although users can still choose to sign out at will.
The app is a free download, and supports any device running iOS 4.0 or better.
