Ginni Rometty, the first female CEO in the history of the 100-year- old International Business Machines, or IBM, is leaving the helm in April.

Rometty, 62, will remain Big Blue’s executive chairwoman until the end of the year. Her departure, announced Thursday, ends nearly 40 years with a technology giant famous for its conservative corporate culture. Rometty became IBM CEO eight years ago after previously overseeing sales and marketing.

Arvind Krishna, IBM’s senior vice president for cloud and cognitive software, will take over on April 6 after a couple months of transition.
