Gigabyte Launches Four New Workstation, Server Motherboards

Gigabyte announced a set of four workstation and server motherboards designed for use with the new Intel Xeon E3-1200 V5 processor family (formerly Greenlow). These new boards come in ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX form factors and are all built using high-quality server-grade components. Gigabyte released two workstation boards and two server boards, with a premium and budget model for each type.

Workstation

The MW31-SP0 motherboard is the first ATX workstation motherboard from Gigabyte that supports the new Intel E3-1200 V5 processors, and it offers a robust feature set that includes four DDR4 DIMM slots that will support up to 64 GB of ECC memory, two gigabit LAN ports, eight SATA III 6 Gb/s ports, an M.2 slot and an additional mezzanine card slot. The memory card slot is intended for use with one of Gigabyte’s proprietary LAN controller cards, if networking capabilities need further expansion. The board also features 2-way Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossfireX support, clearly defining this offering as a workstation motherboard with premium features.

For a more conservative build, Gigabyte’s micro ATX MW21-SE0 motherboard is an entry-level workstation board designed with minimal features, bringing down the price while still offering highly-durable components. The MW21 also offers up to 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory, but it sheds much of its features compared to the MW31. This budget-oriented workstation board features one gigabit LAN port, one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and only six SATA III ports, with an M.2 slot surprisingly absent from this board’s offerings. However, if you have to build a workstation on a budget, Gigabyte’s MW21-SE0 will get the job done.

Servers

For servers, Gigabyte offers the MX11-PC0 for premium small form-factor performance and features. The board sports two DDR4 DIMM slots for up to 32 GB of ECC memory, two gigabit LAN ports, four SATA III ports, one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and a special mini-SAS HD connector for use with an NVMe SSD. This mini-ITX motherboard also features an Aspeed AST2400 remote management controller.

The MX31-BS0 offers entry level features in a micro ATX form factor. This board features four DDR4 DIMM slots for up to 64 GB of ECC memory, two gigabit LAN ports, an M.2 slot, six SATA III ports, one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and the same Aspeed AST2400 remote management controller as its smaller, more talented brother.

Now, enterprise customers are now able to join the 14nm processor club!
