Two Canadian carriers on Thursday announced the arrival of the mobile broadband version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet. Both Rogers and Telus offer the device. On either network, the tablet can reach a maximum theoretical download speed of up to 21Mbps over HSPA+ 3G (branded as 4G).
Rogers offers subsidies on the device depending on how long of a contract buyers pair it with, pricing it at $350 CAD on a three-year contract with a minimum $32 CAD, 500MB per month data plan, $400 CAD on a two-year plan, and $450 CAD on a single-year term. Contract-free, it costs the same $650 CAD as Telus, which is the only way the latter carrier offers it.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and runs on Android 3.1 with TouchWiz now loaded in from the start. Like many, it has a 10-inch, 1280×800 screen but does add stereo speakers. Out back is a three-megapixel camera, while a two-megapixel camera faces the user. Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi round out the key specs.
