10 years ago Sony optioned Powers for a film, only a year after the series launched to critical success. It won the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2001. But that effort just move around between talent and Sony’s TV with nothing to become of it.

Well last year, Brian Michael Bendis and Journeyman creator Kevin Falls pitched the show to cable network FX. Well today we get news that FX has greenlit a pilot for the series.

The pilot will be directed by Michael Dinner from a script by Charles H. Eglee. Falls, who wrote the script that Bendis showed to FX last year, has left the project. Casting for the Powers pilot is to begin immediately, and shooting will start in the spring.

The series takes place in a universe where superpowers are somewhat unusual, but not uncommon. The protagonist is Christian Walker, a superhero turned homicide detective. Along with his partner Deena Pilgrim, he solves murder cases involving “powers,” or people with superpowers.
