Fox 2000 has plans to bring to the big screen another story from novelist Veronica Roth, best known for her popular The Divergent SeriesDeadline reports that an Inertia movie will be based on Roth’s short story of the same name. The tale was published in the anthology “Summer Days and Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories,” published earlier this year by Pan MacMillan.

“‘Inertia,’” Roth wrote on her Tumblr page this past summer, “is about love (of course), friendship, weird future tech, taking care of each other, taking care of your own brain, and probability.”

The Inertia movie takes place in the near future where, thanks to a new technology, people are able to mentally connect with their loved ones just before death.  The story follows a young woman, Claire, who learns that an estranged friend, Matt, is dying and has requested a final interface with her.

Greg Mooradian and Nikki Ramey are set to oversee the Inertia movie for Fox 2000. Producing are Temple Hill‘s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Pouya Shahbazian.

Roth’s Divergent books have been perennial New York Times best-sellers since 2011. The first three Divergent films have grossed more than $725 million at the global box office, marking Lionsgate’s highest-grossing films domestically outside The Hunger Games and Twilight franchises. The most recent film Allegiant, stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoë Kravitz, Octavia Spencer, Jeff Daniels, Miles Teller and Naomi Watts.

The Allegiant cast also includes Ray Stevenson, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Keiynan Lonsdale and Jonny Weston, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Nadia Hilker and Bill Skarsgård.
