Former Acer chief Gianfranco Lanci has found a new home at Lenovo, where he will act as a consultant. After six months on the sidelines, Lenovo confirmed that Lanci had been hired by the company. Lanci is to advise the Chinese-based company on different ways in which it can bolster its retail operations, particularly the integration of Lenovo’s latest acquisition, Medion.

In a statement sent to Channel Register, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang explained the rationale behind the decision:

“As a consultant to us, Gianfranco brings years of expertise and insights to Lenovo that will help us strengthen our growing global consumer business. Talented people are joining Lenovo because of our commitment to the PC industry,” he said.

Lanci was forced into resigning from the position of Acer CEO after a disagreement with the company’s board on the direction that it should have been taking with its PC and mobile product lines in response to the rise of the iPad. Lanci recently criticized his former company for being too nationalistic and resisting his request to boost its mobile engineering team from 1,000 to 3,000 by hiring talent from overseas
