FCC Wants Input On Reverse Auction Rules

The FCC today adopted a Public Notice regarding the reverse auction for 600MHz television spectrum, currently scheduled to take place in early 2016.

The FCC wants input regarding the auction’s specifics, such as how it should set opening prices, what its spectrum targets should be, and how best to measure the impact of potential interference. The agency is also seeking feedback about how best to set the conditions that must be satisfied before the auction can conclude. The FCC will accept comments until Jan. 30, 2015. It wants to have the final rules regarding the auction in place no later than October or November of 2015.

The auction will see television broadcasters give up their 600MHz spectrum holdings, which will then be auctioned off to mobile broadband companies. Participation is voluntary.
