The FCC has removed a scheduled vote regarding the incentive auction rules from the agenda of its open meeting, scheduled for July 16.
According to Commissioner Ajit Pai, the FCC delayed the release of some simulation data until just days before the vote. Based on the initial feedback the FCC has received from stakeholders regarding the data, the agency realizes it needs to take a bit more time sifting through the responses before voting.
“These incentive auction issues are complicated and highly technical,” explained Pai in a statement. “We must make difficult and important judgments. So we should not be forced to review comments less than 24 hours before we vote on a matter that will have long-term consequences for the future of our nation’s broadcast and wireless industries. This is not the kind of deliberative process that will lead to good decisions.”
Though the FCC removed the vote from its July 16 agenda, it has not rescheduled the vote. The FCC expects the reverse auction for 600MHz airwaves to kick off in mid 2016.
