Sony today confirmed to Reuters that shipments of its PlayStation 3 game consoles were seized by customs officers in the Netherlands, as ordered by a court injunction. Netherlands is a key entry point for Sony’s European sales.
LG won the case, which holds that the console violates patents held by the South Korean electronics maker with its Blu-ray drive. A Dutch court ordered a 10-day import ban and tens of thousands of the consoles have already been seized.
Sony has not renewed a technology-sharing agreement with LG that expired three years ago, according to Reuters sources. The two have then sued each other, with Sony filing a complaint against LG in the US International Trade Commission in 2010 that seeks to block LG’s Rumor Touch and other smartphones from the US.
LG did the same in February, though this related to the Blu-ray video tech used in the PS3.
