Epson to Release V800, V850 Pro Photo Scanners Next Month

Epson is gearing up to release two new professional level photo scanners in November with the Perfection V800 Photo and Perfection V850 Pro. The scanners offer a number of scanning options, allowing users to scan photos and negatives–including 35mm slides, medium format and film strips–with the help of height adjustable film holders.

“Epson has incorporated everything it has learned on how to scan the perfect image into these scanners,” said Senior Product Manager for Scanners Mark Pickard. “The result is an advanced level of quality and performance for photographers and graphic designers to digitize portfolios and create unparalleled photo reproductions and other film applications easily and affordably in-house.”

The new scanners scan up to a 4800x6400DPI optical resolution and a 4.0 maximum optical density. Both the V800 Photo and V850 Pro use Epson’s Dual Lens scanning system, which optimizes each scan by selecting from one of the two lenses for the requested resolution. A high resolution mode can be used for transparencies and reflective sources to scan at 4800DPI, while a super resolution lens mode can achieve 6400DPI for items like film negatives.

Each scanner is equipped with the ReadyScan LED light source that Epson says uses 23 percent less power and scans faster than others on the market. The system has an additional perk, as it requires no warm-up period for use. The scanners also make use of Digital ICE technology to remove creases, dust and scratches from scanned objects automatically. New film holders are included with the scanners, including a transparency adapter.

The V850 Pro comes with a feature that isn’t available in the V800 Photo, as “high pass optics” with an anti-reflection coatings and a “high-reflection mirror” are included for improved image quality and performance. An additional set of film holders is included with the V850 as well.

Consumers can expect the Epson Perfection V800 Photo and Perfection V850 Pro to be available in November at photography retailers and online. The V800 will be priced at an MSRP of $740, while the V850 Pro is set for $950.
