Variety has reported that a new analysis report conducted by PartyCasino has looked at the box office numbers from 1980 to 2017 to determine Hollywood’s most and least profitable actors. The result? Surprisingly Emilio Estevez has emerged as the most profitable actor over the last four decades.
The Brat Packer, son of Martin Sheen and brother of Charlie Sheen, topped the list with the best return of any top-billed male actor who has starred in at least ten films. For every $1 spent on one of his films, he generated $6.70 at the box office. The runners up were Jean-Claude Van Damme with $4.20, Mel Gibson with $3.50, and Tyler Perry and Dudley Moore at $3 each.
So who are the people that are the least profitable? Brad Pitt (10 cents), Johnny Depp (20 cents), Robert De Niro (24 cents), Hugh Jackman (25 cents), and Anthony Hopkins (26 cents).
Yet who is the single most profitable actor of any gender? That honor goes to Rose Byrne who makes $9.80 in box-office for every budgeted dollar. The less extensive results for actresses was due to women being less likely to be the top-billed actor for a movie according to a representative. Nevertheless also faring well were Regina Hall with $3.50 and Octavia Spencer with $2.90.
In terms of genre, mystery films ($39.89), horror ($34.13) and thrillers ($17.36) were the most profitable. The least were action films ($1.89), crime dramas ($2.01) and musicals ($2.05).
