Doxie Debuts the Cordless Flip Scanner

Scanner maker Apparent, makers of Doxie, have unveiled a new “ultra-mobile” flatbed scanner that features a removable lid and transparent scanning window, known as the Doxie Flip. The device is said to offer flatbed-quality scanning to just about anything that is basically flat — including notoriously hard-to-scan items like books, scrapbooks, photo albums where the photos are not easily removed, coins, stamps and other items. The unit is cordless and battery-powered, saving to SD card media.

The $149 device, now available through Doxie USA as well as Amazon, can scan pages that are larger than its own surface area (about the size of a book) through multiple scans and auto-stitching software (coming next month) for Mac or PC. Users who are trying to scan can look directly through the scanning window to line things up as desired. The lid, which allows the unit to operate as a small but traditional flatbed scanner, is completely removable for more in-place scanning.

As the product is ideally designed for capturing notebook pages, the company is offering buyers who order the Flip directly through its website a free custom-edition Field Notes pocket notebook for a limited time. The device is in stock now in the US, Canada, the UK and throughout continental Europe.
