Doris Day Has Died At Age 97

Singer and actress Doris Day has died today at 97 years old. Day, an extremely popular pop singer and jazz vocalist before Warner Bros. brought her to Hollywood, died early Monday at her California home surrounded by a few close friends.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation announced in a press release that:

“Day had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia, resulting in her death.”The Man Who Knew Too Much

Day was widely embraced for an ever-optimistic sensibility and charm. She starred in over three dozen movies, most notably Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 version of  which saw her singing what would become her signature song Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).

Other works included Pillow Talk, Calamity Jane, On Moonlight Bay, Tea for Two, Jumbo and The Glass Bottom Boat,   She also stared in the  CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show.

She also attracted a considerable following as a singer with 1945’s Sentimental Journey a big hit while 1953’s Secret Love nabbed her an Oscar.
