Dish Removes Newsmax TV from Its Service

Posted by at 5:33 pm on June 2, 2016

Newsmax TVDish last night dropped the conservative Newsmax TV channel from its lineup, citing a dispute over financial terms.

Newsmax Media has been on Dish since June 2014 when it first launched. Unlike most carriage arrangements, Newsmax actually paid Dish to carry it rather than the other way around.

However, Dish’s Twitter customer service page last night posted this statement in response to subscribers who were complaining that the channel had been dropped.

“Dish has had a productive relationship with Newsmax, and we are confident that we have offered the network a reasonable deal to allow its continued carriage. We regret the service disruption to our customers and Dish will continue to carry a selection of news and commentary programming representing all points on the political spectrum.”

Newsmax has yet to issue a comment on the dispute.

DIRECTV still offers the channel.

Dish has slightly fewer than 14 million customers, that mean Newsmax just lost about 35 percent of its subscriber base.
