As part of our Salute to Moms, we here at ToT have come up with a few gadgets and gizmos that we think no shutter happy mother should be without.

Kodak Easyshare W820

Digital Photo Fame

One of the great things about digital photography is the ease with which you can snap and share your pictures.   A great way to share is with a digital photo frame.   With a digital frame your mom can download pictures directly from her camera to the frame, usually via a slot for whatever kind of memory her camera uses.   Some frames even let you upload photos via a connection to the internet, usually vie you wireless home network.   Frames that are internet connectable also let you display other content from the web like traffic, news and weather information.

For right around $100 Kodak’s EasyShare W820 gives you a frame that can connect to a wireless network so that you can downlaod photos from your PC, a gallery Kodak provides or from social media sites like Fickr.   YOu can view other information like   news, weather, traffic and sports updates via FrameCHannel programming.   This frame also features a quick touch border with special lighting that shows you where to touch for various features.   It can play MP3 files and has 512 MB of internal memory and 2 memory card slots to store all of your photos.

Pandigital Pan7000dw

If that’s out of your price range, for about $60, the Pandigital PAN7000DW is a 7 inch digital photo frame that will give you the following features:

  • 7-inch Digital Photo Frame in black domed wood
  • 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 800 x 600 resolution
  • Stores up to 6400 images on 1 GB of internal memory
  • Interchangeable white and gray mats
  • Built in 6 in 1 card reader
  • USB 2.0 port and Mini USB port
  • JPEG, AVI and MP3 digital video and audio
  • WiFi/Bluetooth compatible
  • Brightness control dial
  • Stereo speakers
  • Headphone jack

Tripod

Gorillapod

Gorillapod

Another great gift idea for the photographer mom is a portable tripod, that way she can get great shots without having to worry about the effect of motion, or she can even be in the shot herself.   We at ToT like Joby’s Gorillapod  tripods because of their cool bendable patented hinge designed legs that allow you to put them into nearly any position, on a table, around a tree branch or even out the window of a moving car.   For under $50 you can get any of the following models:

  • Original – Designed to hold portable digital cameras that weigh up to 325 g
  • Magnetic – Also holds up to 325 g but has feet that will stick to metal surfaces
  • SLR – Holds both still and video cameras up to 800 g
  • SLR Zoom – Will accept professional style heads and holds up to a whopping 3kg

Reveal Ver. 8

Video Software

For less about $80 Reveal Ver. 8 from muvee will  give  your mom the tools to turn her jittery home videos footage into a high quality cinematic experiece.   Reveal has automatic motion and face detection, so your photos and video are synced to the beat of your favorite music. You can tell your story the way you want to through advanced personalization features including captions, voiceover and music trimming. Then you can post to YouTube, Facebook or burn to DVD.

One touch transfer from your camcorder, phone or camera makes it quick to get started.   Reveal’s editing tools include automatic brightness control, color correction and red eye reduction. It can also zoom in on specific details, rotate images and change the sequence of images.

A feature that really impressed us is the, optimization for video cards that support Nvidia’s CUDA technology.   One thing this does is allow the editor to remove the shakiness that occurs so often in handheld video footage, with Reveal’s stabilization feature.

These inexpensive, thoughtful gifts will help your mom share pictures and videos with family and friends without you having to ask for a loan.   Keep watching Test ToT for other Mother’s Day Gift Guides.

Today, the iPad offers the best connected photo frame experience.

  2. I agree that the iPad offers a great photo display experience, heck it’s pretty great at most things it does.

What I was trying for in the post though was to find gifts that are in a more affordable price range, mostly the $100 dollars or less. What is good though is that there are several digital frames to choose from at that price point that give you lots of options and features.

Thanks for sharing your opinion 🙂
