Dermot Mulroney To Join The Cast Of Grey’s Anatomy Spin-Off Station 19

Dermot Mulroney is on his way to TV Seattle. The actor is joining Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Station 19 for a multiple episode arc in Season 2. He’ll be playing Ryan’s (Alberto Frezza) father, who is back in town after an extended leave. He’s “sharp witted, very perceptive, wickedly smart” and can flirt his way out of any situation, according to his official character description.

The key part of Mulroney’s casting is that his appearance should shed some more light on Ryan’s rebellious past. We know that Andy’s (Jaina Lee Ortiz) childhood best friend and hookup partner had a rough start growing up, but turned his life around to become a police officer. It turns out his law breaking side runs in the family because his dad has a history of running in with the cops as well. If he hasn’t reformed in his time away, that could cause some interesting drama between him and his now by-the-book son.

Mulroney joins Boris Kodjoe on the list of new additions to Season 2. Kodjoe’s character is being kept much more under wraps — all we know is that he’ll be a new firefighter at Station 19 in the wake of Season 1’s gigantic skyscraper fire that left a lot of our crew in serious jeopardy.

Station 19 returns Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9/8c on ABC.
