DC Tops Overall September 2014 Comics Sales

Death of Wolverine VariantThe death of Marvel’s most popular mutant shot to the top of the September sales charts for the direct market, but DC Comics continued its run of ruling the ‘back-to-school’ month for the fourth straight year as its Futures End one-shot event dominated overall.

Charles Soule and Steve McNiven’s “Death of Wolverine” #1 and 2 were the two best-selling comics for September 2014, while “Amazing Spider-Man’s” continuing build to “Spider-Verse” and the finale of “Original Sin” also placed in the Top Ten. DC took the other six spots, with the Futures End one-shots for Batman and Harley Quinn landing at the #3 and 4 positions, respectively, while the ‘5 Years Later’ “Justice League,” “Detective Comics,” and “Batman/Superman” issues landed at 6, 8 and 10. “Justice League” #33, originally scheduled for an August release, was the #9 book.

DC’s sales dominance continued on the collected edition/trade paperback charts, where its “Batman: Death of the Family” book & mask combo was the #1 seller for the month, with the “Forever Evil” hardcover at #2. The latest “Yu-Gi-Oh” release was #3. “Walking Dead,” “Saga” and “Fatale” all charted in the top ten, continuing Image Comics’ traditionally strong showing.
