Dashlane and Google Building Universal Password Manager Framework for Android

Posted by at 9:14 am on August 8, 2016

YoloLogoDashlane has announced Open YOLO, an open-source project the company is spearheading together with Google to create a universal API for third-party apps to automatically and securely access login information stored in password managers such as Dashlane.

Other password manager developers are involved as well, and the standard will also be open to other OSes. YOLO stands for You Only Login Once, the basic goal of the project. Password managers enable secure passwords (long, random passwords that are different for each service) that would be difficult to remember otherwise. Current solutions rely on auto-fill software for login forms, or sometimes copy-and-paste.

Open YOLO would allow apps to skip the login step entirely, while keeping login info secure.
