Corning Is Working On Real Glass For Folding Displays

Corning is working on a new glass product for folding phone displays that can bend to a radius of 5mm.

In an interview with Wired, Corning’s head of the Gorilla Glass division John Bayne describes the new glass, which will be about 0.1mm thin. Current foldable phones use a layer of polymer over the diplay. Glass would be much more resistant to scratches, and to deforming over time.

Corning is already delivering early samples to phone makers, but is working to improve performance before commercial end products ship.

Phone and computer makers are looking for better drop protection and/or a bend radius as tight as 3mm.
